INSIDER'S TIPS FOR DEVELOPING A SUCCESSFUL API FOR JAVA

JCP and JUG meet-up
On Thursday night at QCon the JCP is organizing a meet-up with JSR Spec Leads, JUG members, Java champions.
Join these Java fans and supporters to discuss how you can get involved in the community, what it takes to develop a successful API for Java, make your opinion heard and more!   Participants include Patrick Curran, Rod Johnson, Werner Keil, Antonio Goncalves, Stephen Colebourne, Peter Pilgrim, Filippo Diotalevi, ...."
This BOF will discuss what it takes to develop a successful API for Java. Spec Leads of key JSRs, Expert Group members will share their experience with extending a technology - Java - that will have an impact on engineering processes and on things people use every day -- phones, televisions, and navigation systems. Do you need experience with the technology and ability to gather support for the technology in order to become a lead of a Java API (JSR) or Expert Group member? What level of experience? How do you recruit motivated experts to assist you, guide an international team, and make appropriate technical decisions ? What are the questions you should ask yourself in order to identify areas where new JSRs are needed? What need of the Java community will be addressed by the proposed Java specification? Why isn't this need met by existing specifications? And more importantly, how do you define a JSR without clashing with an existing API? Among the things you will learn is also how to search beyond current Java APIs for application opportunities. Current and prospective JSR Spec Leads, developers thinking of joining Expert Groups will find this BOF instructive and inspirational.

Participants: Patrick Curran, Rod Johnson, Werner Keil, Antonio Goncalves, Stephen Colebourne, Peter Pilgrim, Filippo Diotalevi, ...."
